Mindfulness In the Classroom
Mindfulness has been getting a lot of press in recent years. Articles about the benefits of bringing mindfulness into schools can be found here, here, and here. It seems there are many benefits to practicing mindfulness including: self-regulation, improved patience, understanding feelings, reducing stress, anxiety and depression.
In an effort to learn more about the benefits of mindfulness in schools, I am enrolling in a course through Mindful Schools titled, Mindful Educator Essentials: Teach mindfulness to Youth to Build Attention, Self-regulation, and Empathy. As I learn more, I hope to infuse mindfulness into my classroom lessons. Equipping students with this tool, mindfulness, will hopefully give them access to a space within them that they will be able to turn to not only in times of stress and anxiety, but also during mundane moments throughout the day. More to come!
